The construction industry is at a critical juncture:
- Over half of skilled trade workers are over 46 and nearing retirement.
- Following the economic downturn of 2008, 30% of construction workers left the industry and have not returned.
- Less than 8% of high school graduates and only 14% of college graduates are pursuing careers in construction.
- In 6 years, the construction industry will experience a 4 million job deficit
Additionally, the industry lacks diversity–of thought, access, age, and ethnicity. This lack of representation hinders growth and innovation.
Given construction’s vital role across all industries, this workforce shortage has far-reaching implications, putting corporations across the country at risk.
